Frances Yip is a renowned Hong Kong singer, internationally acclaimed vocalist in the Chinese music industry. Known for her elegant stage presence and unmistakably distinctive voice, she gained entry into the music industry after winning the TVB Sharp Night singing competition in 1969, initially focusing on Western pop songs.

In 1980, she rose to instant fame after performing the theme song for the TVB drama The Bund. The song became immensely popular and swept across Chinese communities worldwide. She has released over 80 albums, and her performances have taken her around the globe. She later continued to perform the theme songs for the sequel series The Bund II (1980) and The Bund III (1981). “The Bund,” “Myriad Emotions,” and “The Bund III”, all three songs became signature classics for Frances Yip. In addition, she also sang theme songs for several other TVB dramas, such as The Legend of Wonder Lady and Red Face.

In 1999, “The Bund” was awarded one of Radio Television Hong Kong’s “Top 10 Golden Songs of the 20th Century.” With her rich and powerful vocals, Frances Yip delivered the emotionally stirring piece with unmatched depth. As the drama gained widespread popularity, she became a household name across mainland China. Beyond The Bund, she also popularised many other hits such as Red Face and Myriad Emotions, establishing herself as a highly respected powerhouse vocalist. She performs in multiple languages including Cantonese, English, Mandarin and Japanese, covering genres that range from pop and jazz to musical theatre. Her versatility has solidified her status as an international music icon.

Beyond her prominent reputation in the Chinese-speaking world, Frances Yip’s voice has also crossed the Pacific, winning the admiration of countless international listeners.
