Here's a story about the important birds & siamangs in Genting Highlands Malaysia.
A Little History
Genting Highlands Forests are home to 257 species of Lowland, Hill and Montane Birds as well as 5 species of Primates including the Endangered Lesser Ape species called Siamang. Our Montane Ericaceous Forest at Gunung Ulu Kali Ridge is a well-known and important Migratory Birds Site, attracting 6-8 species of migratory birds from the Northern Hemisphere from August to March the following year. Throughout the year, Siamang, a territorial species, and other primates can be seen in their natural habitats.
A Story About Bird
The Awana IBA, located 3000ft above sea level, and the Ulu Kali Bird Port, located 6000ft above sea level, are two popularly visited sites in Genting Highlands. Both sites, as well as a couple of new ones, will be gazetted as Important Biodiversity Sites to be protected, and their use for birdwatching activities will be regulated to ensure that their natural habitats are preserved and sustained in the long term.
A Story About Siamang
12 Siamang families are being monitored on a regular basis to document their developments in the face of Genting Highlands' growing urbanisation. Special Siamang-Human interfacing situations, as well as conflict mitigation SOPs, are being designed and implemented to assist our precious Siamang in maintaining their fragile coexistence in areas within Genting Highlands' lands.
Sustainability Effort Of The Surrounding For Food Chain
Bird and Siamang sustainability efforts includes:
Keeping the Bird and Siamang (and other Primate species) populations alive and well is critical to protecting, sustaining, and preserving our biodiversity. Our efforts here represent our other conservation efforts to sustain and protect other Wildlife such as Mammal, Insect, Amphibian, Reptile, and Snake species, some of which are Endemic and Endangered such as the Serow (Wild Mountain Goat), Endemic Reed Snake, Macro Calamus gentingensis, rare frog species Ansonia Smaegol, Moon Moths such as Actias maenas.
