You’ve probably seen lion dances at malls during Chinese New Year or at the grand openings of businesses. For some performers, it’s serious business and that’s certainly the case at Resorts World Genting. Here, lion dance is more than just a competition — it's a celebration of dedication, cultural heritage and community spirit.
This year, we’ve received a major nod for our efforts from the Malaysia Book of Records as the “Longest Running World Lion Dance Championship” *releases confetti*.
In case you didn’t hear all the fanfare, we held the 15th Genting World Lion Dance Championship at the Arena of Stars from 25 to 27 July and what a thrilling three days it was! 40 elite teams from across the globe, including powerhouses from six countries and territories including China, Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Canada, Hong Kong and Malaysia brought their all to deliver unforgettable performances.
Plus, there was a very special appearance and performance by Sandra Lim, Miss Universe Malaysia 2024 and Top 30 Finalist at Miss Universe 2024, a martial artist herself. Also in attendance was Transport Minister, Anthony Loke.
A total of USD 48,600 (approximately RM212.7k) was given out to the most deserving teams. Congratulations to all! Here is the list of winners, with Malaysia capturing the third spot.
Champion: Singapore Yiwei Athletic Association – Team B
1st Runner-up: Singapore Wushu Dragon & Lion Dance Federation – Singapore Yiwei Athletic Association – Team A
