Resorts World Genting Unveils Its
Environmental-Friendly Christmas Decorations

Genting Highlands, 15 November 2010 – Christmas, the joyous season of giving! And in the spirit of giving, Resorts World Genting today announced its gift to Mother Nature by constructing a 45-foot Signature Christmas Tree made out of used materials. Not only that, the Resort will also be constructing a few more Christmas trees and decorations from recycled materials.

In a nutshell, a total of 1,412 pieces of 5-galloon water dispensers, 1,412 pieces of PLC light bulbs, 36,560 pieces of 500ml, 600ml & 1.5litre mineral water bottle, 4,050 pieces of soft drink cans, 5,620 pieces of bottle caps, 568 pieces of buttons and 897 pieces of CDs were used to build this year’s unique Christmas decorations at the Resort.

Speaking during an interview session with the media at Tamarind Hill today, Genting Malaysia Berhad’s Vice President of Marketing – Mr. Chow Wei Heng said, “As the one and only integrated highlands resort surrounded by a rare 130 million year-old rainforest, the management of Resorts World Genting feels compelled to communicate the importance of Social Responsibility by creating awareness about caring for Mother Nature. The inspiration to preserve nature sparked this beautiful creation crafted purely from recycled materials.”

Also in attendance during the interview session were Ms. Elaine Ho – Assistant Brand Manager of Spritzer and Ms. Yanly Choo – Key Account Manager of Panasonic Malaysia that had generously contributed to the worthy project by sponsoring cash and goods in kind. They were impressed with Resorts World Genting’s ‘Go Green’ initiative and decided to work hand-in-hand with the Resort for its one-of-a-kind Christmas tree and decorations to ensure that the message of recycling for the good of the environment is intact.

To do up the Resort’s Christmas decorations out of used materials is not an easy task. It was conscientiously decided that Genting Malaysia Berhad’s employees both at Wisma Genting, Kuala Lumpur and at the hill top resort would put collaborative efforts into the project. 18 drop-off points were allocated for employees to chip in their fair share of used water bottles, CDs, buttons and cloth.

Collected items were then brought to an area near Awana Genting Highlands where they were sorted by material, color, shape and size. The sorting process took 207 hours to complete. The materials were then manually cleaned – soaped, scrubbed and rinsed – and later prepped for the fabrication process.

The amazing showcase of this collaboration will soon be ready for visitors to admire at Resorts World Genting. On 1 December 2010, members of the public are invited to head up to the Fun City Above The Clouds to view the signature 45 feet tall Christmas Tree, made out of 1,074 pieces of used Spritzer water dispensers at the Maxims Genting Hotel Water Fountain plus other Christmas decorations around the resort – all made out of used materials. From Christmas trees and snowflakes to gingerbread men, these unique creations will be prove a fascinating sight for visitors to the resort.
