Malaysian singer song-writer Penny Tai will be back to her home
country this January. Despite being active in the industry for
almost a decade, no one would have thought the petite Penny to be 31
years of age. With 7 studio albums already, Penny started
song-writing at the age of 17 and pens each and every single song in
her albums herself. Born in Johore to a Hakka family, the platform
which launched her career came from the Halo Song-writing Contest in
Kuala Lumpur back in the late 90s. And in 1999, EMI Music (Taiwan)
offered her a recording contract and moved her to Taiwan to pursue a
career in singing and song-writing. The rest, as they say is
history.
Her first album, the self-titled "Penny" was released in January
2000 and with that she was hailed as the next big thing in the music
industry. Her career reached a pinnacle in 2006 when she won the
Best Composer award at the Golden Melody Awards for the song "Crazy
Love" - the title track to her 2005 hit album. |
